Keep Calm and Pray for Boston
[via]
I usually avoid posting about politics, world events, anything too serious here on the blog. Mostly because this is my space to just get away from anything negative. Maybe it's my naive way of thinking that if I just don't write about it, I won't have to deal with it. I won't have to think about it. At least not now and not here.

So I debated on whether or not to address the recent events in Boston.
To be honest, I didn't really want to. I still don't really want to. As I type this, I still don't know if I will post it.
But I can't get away from it. It's everywhere. On the news. On social media. On my mind. On my heart.  And I want to remember this.

There's never a correct way to approach these situations.

I've seen people get upset at others for continuing their social media posts and daily activities like nothing happened.
Can't you see that we all react to these things differently?

And there's people getting angry at others for caring so much about the Boston explosions but "not caring enough" about similar events happening around the world.
Can't you see that the cut is deeper when it happens at home?

Can't we all just get along?

I'll never understand this and why it happened. I'll never understand acts of terror. I'll never understand the amount of hatred that it takes to commit an act like this.

Sending Love and Prayers to Boston
2009, Boston Public Library
Just because we don't talk about it, doesn't mean we aren't thinking about it.
Just because we don't write about it, doesn't mean it didn't happen.
Just because we weren't there, doesn't mean it doesn't hurt.

Because I don't know what else to say, I'll leave you with this -- Don't lose your hope in humanity. It's everywhere. Sometimes you just have to look a little harder.

Patton Oswalt said this yesterday -- So when you spot violence, or bigotry, or intolerance or fear or just garden-variety misogyny, hatred or ignorance, just look it in the eye and think, "The good outnumber you, and we always will."

Sending all of my love and prayers to Boston and to all of those affected. (These people are sending their love too.)

  1. I completely agree!! I don't usually post on things like this either, but I do think I will this time... and not because it's more important than the other major things that have happened over the past few years, but because I feel like people need a hope and they need a different mindset, than the world is just evil. It's not, there is so much good left in it. I'm happy to be a part of that good too.

  2. Everything you said was perfect. I normally stay off of these topics since I like my blog happy, but since Boston is my home, I had to.

  3. Agreed. We all handle things differently and we approach these things for different reasons. Deep down, as stated by so many other bloggers, we are good people the majority of us. We can't help BUT care, hurt, think about it. All of it. But we may or may not handle it very differently and that doesn't make anyone else better than the other. Thanks for this post.

  4. Great Job Jess!
I'm still very much "affected" by it all.
Be it because I'm a runner or just a fan of Boston and its people...

I agree, we all handle it differently, and we must all be accepting of their ways.

  6. From a Bostonian, thank you for going through with it and posting this. Seriously...

I don't think those that don't post about it are selfish by any means, but the ones that do... I need those posts. I need those positive thoughts. I need that hope. Desperately, more than you can imagine.

I'm having a hard time dealing with this... so THANK YOU <3
