lashes

Image
I have long lashes. Blessing right? Well, yes, they are but I haven't really enjoyed them until recently. Now if you know me or have read my blog you know that I have close to zero knowledge about any beauty products. I'm clueless. But this much I do know- lashes are supposed to be curled! (right?) I've searched high and low for a mascara that could hold my lashes up and curled ALL day. I've tried higher-end brands like Dior and inexpensive finds from grocery stores. Nothing ever worked! Well, ladies and gentlemen, I finally found something! Maybelline's "The Falsies" Volum' Express Mascara . I originally purchased it because the bottle was pretty (this is how I usually determine which beauty product to purchase) and inexpensive (around $8 depending where you buy it). Now, I buy it because it works! BEFORE AFTER Ok so obviously it doesn't look as dramatic as they advertise but the point is - it works! It stays on, holds the curl

fashion star [episode 3 favorites]

Do any of you watch Fashion Star? I'm really loving some of the designers. Here are my favorite pieces from this week's show: Jersey Dress by Orly Shani: $295 available at  Saks Fifth Avenue I really like Orly, her style, and everything she has created for the show so far. I fell in love with this dress! She showed it in 3 different prints on the runway. The back has a low scoop and on the runway it was shown with pockets that had lining that matched the color of the waistband. I'm not sure why they removed the pockets because it really added to the look! Striped Shorts by Nzimiro Oputa: $24.95 available at  H&M   Nzimiro specializes in menswear- that I love. I want my husband in all of it! I wish H&M was selling all 3 prints that were shown on the runway! Cuffed Pleated Satin Shorts by Ross Bennett: $59 (available in  floral, pink, and green gingham) available at  Macy's   I'm so glad Ross finally made a sale! He's a Texas boy so

2010 mixtape [tierra studios]

I was surfing the web and came across an old blogpost of mine on the Tierra Studios  website. It made me happy because this post was created at the start of my relationship with my husband. :) It also reminded me of songs that I love but haven't listened to in a while. Anyway.. I thought I'd share it! Enjoy some tunes from 2010:  Tierra Sessions Vol. 2, J-Ro

hawaii's shop a lea [spring fashion]

Image
Last week was Ala Moana's 5th annual Shop a Lea event. Shop a Lea is a weeklong shopping and fashion celebration at the Ala Moana mall in Honolulu. It includes in-store events, special offers, hula shows, fashion shows, games, and more! center stage @ Ala Moana On Sunday, 3/25, I was lucky enough to snag a seat at the Spring Fashion Show featuring  Splash Hawaii  and  Valerie Joseph . (I was so bummed I missed Michael Costello, Banana Republic, and Betsey Johnson!) To be honest, I was a bit disappointed by the show. The models seemed to all be one "type", which I guess is typical in fashion shows. I just expected a diverse showing of models since Hawaii has such a diverse culture. On top of that, I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed by the selection of clothes that the designers chose to showcase on the runway. There was nothing shown on the runway that really got my attention and would pull me into the store as a new buyer. I adore Valerie Joseph thou

roaming with qsw [i won!]

I recently participated in  Brooke Dombroski 's  ROAM  with  QSW  Instagram contest. Brooke posted a photo everyday for six days and it was our job to mimic her photo each day in a creative way that represented Hawaii life. Brooke announced the winners this past Sunday at the QSW (QuikSilver Women's line) trunk show held at Local Motion  in Ala Moana. There were seven winners. One for each day and a grand prize winner who won a photo shoot with   Brooklyn Hawaii  styled by QSW! While I did not win the grand prize, I did win the prize for Day 4! I don't think I've ever won a contest so I was super excited! Here are a few pictures from the event. (all stolen because I was too distracted to remember to take any! :( ) The seven winners! I'm obsessed with Etsy. Like I check-my-favorite-shops-everyday kind of obsessed... My most recent favorites are... Linzgutz  by Lindsey Gutierrez. I don't remember how I came across Linzgutz, but once I did, I fell in love. She's taken the current trend of chunky chains and made it her own. I currently own 3 of her bracelets and they are perfect pieces for my wardrobe. Besides her stylish pieces, Lindsey is a pleasure to work with. She communicates with her customers in a way that makes you feel like you're her friend - not just another customer. This was the start of my love affair! gorgeous! Next on my Linzgutz wish list is... Turquoise w/ Black & Gold by Linzgutz: $25 Check out the Lingutz Etsy shop at  etsy.com/shop/linzgutz Spike the Punch ! Just about every fashion blogger has talked about them. And why wouldn't they? Their jewelry is so unique and so... gorgeous! Their necklaces are on everyone's wish list (including mine) and a

good christian what?!

Ok y'all.. before I start off, I want to say that I am by no means a perfect Christian and I have a looooong ways to go on my walk with faith. I just had to voice my opinion about this because I haven't heard nearly enough (if any) outrage about it. For those of you who don't know - ABC is airing a new show on Sundays called GCB . GCB is based off of a book titled Good Christian Bitches  by Kim Gatlin. I have never watched an episode of GCB, nor do I want to. I can't judge the series by it's content since I haven't actually watched but isn't that an issue in itself? So many people are so turned off by the title that they aren't giving the show a chance. I'm so surprised at ABC's choice to run this show. With that title. Well actually I'm not surprised at all I guess. Disappointed would be a better word. I guess with Desperate Housewives (which I'm not a fan of either) ending, ABC was looking for a replacement. With Jersey Shore,
