not your average valentines
Have I ever told you guys about my first Valentine's Day as a married woman? You're going to be so jealous. I told Jared that Valentine's Day wasn't super important to me so I didn't want him to make a big deal about it. So you know what he did? He took me grocery shopping. GROCERY SHOPPING. On VALENTINE'S DAY. I was so sure that he was joking.. surely he had some kind of surprise waiting at the end by the checkout counter, right??? Nope. So after our little shopping trip I politely (ok, it wasn't very polite) explained to him that when a girl says something is not a big deal, that means it IS, in fact, a big deal. And that even though a girl says "you don't have to get me anything", she really means "you don't have to spend a ton of money but a small surprise would totally make my day".
I'm pretty sure he learned his lesson and we laugh about it all the time now. What's really funny is that I can't even remember what we did on past Valentine's Days... the only one I vividly remember is the grocery store "date".

I really don't need anything big and fancy for holidays or birthdays (although, of course, those things are awesome too). I'm a big believer in "it's the thought that counts". I'd be tons happier receiving the perfect card from Jared versus a bouquet of random flowers that will die in less than 3 days.
So speaking of cards... I'm a LOVER of cards, handwritten notes, snail mail, and stationery. I'm always on the hunt for cards that describe specific situations, express my personality, and trigger certain emotions.. perfectly...

I have a card shop just like this in Denver called Scribbles that I stop into every couple months to re-stock my cards. Like you, I often buy cards with no one in mind because I have to have them. Love this post!
