choosing happiness

[via]
FYI: This post is pretty random.. and all over the place.. just random thoughts that entered my brain today. And for these reasons, I'm linking up here with one of my favorite bloggers for Random Wednesday.

This post by Megan got me thinking.. about all of the negative things that we can so easily be wrapped up in.. and alternatively, how easily those negatives can be removed from our lives.

Since getting married and moving to Hawaii, my life has simplified a lot. I'm not sure that it was intentional or if it was even due to marriage or the move, but it happened and I'm glad. Life has been less complicated and I've felt so much more content.

One of the many things that changed is friendships. I've obviously lost touch with a lot of "friends". Some of them were guy friends who I guess feel uncomfortable being friends with a married girl.. some relationships dwindled because of the distance. It's funny how things like that happen.

I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason.

There's someone in my life that is always surrounded by drama. It's like she searches for negative people and negative situations and tries to become closely involved with them. And then she wonders why she's unhappy. I just want to shake her. I want to tell her that she deserves better. I want to tell her that life doesn't have to be that way. I want to tell her that she can choose happiness.

Why can't we pinpoint the negative aspects of our lives and remove them? Does it really have to be more complicated than that?
Why can't we choose to surround ourselves with people who will lift us up?
Why can't we choose happiness?

Here's to 2013.. and choosing happiness.

  1. Girl, this is something that I battle with all the time...eliminating the negative out of my life....including people. It's a struggle, but something that has to be done to truly live life to it's fullest. So happy you linked up today!!!!

  2. This is so true! There have been times in my life where I had to let friends go and "break up" with them to get my closure but in the end it was always for the better. Here's to the best 2013

  4. Beautiful post and I can relate to a lot of it. You really do lose the closeness with most of your friends over time. What hurts is when your *best* friends start to make you feel like an acquaintance. I believe in saving old friendships, though, so I'm working on those, this year. Life pulls people apart, but it also brings people together, too, right? :) I have one of those (a few of those) super dramatic, trouble-seeking friends, who has you practically eating popcorn and scrolling your monitor for more details lol. I'm glad it's her and not me, because I don't have the attention span/patience/desire for that craziness. Love your post and the quote(s).

  7. I completely agree...I'm so sick of negative nancies. I mean, it's okay every once in a while, but when it constant drama it gets exhausting. Tonight I was just thinking about downgrading my iphone in an effort to simplify. I just spend way too much time on it and not enough doing other things I actually enjoy!

  10. I actually believe in that quote you posted. I also believe that the negativity is a matter of choice. I guess the negative vibes will always be there but it is up to us if we will dwell on it or if we will let it take over us. Currently, I'm surrounding myself with people that matter and makes me happy. Believe me, happiness or even a smile is viral. So let the positive ones spread. :) happy new year! :)

  11. Wonderful post! I really do believe after living through some really awful things...that happiness is definitely a choice...even the crappiest situation can have some humor in it...or, once you realize that like good times, bad times pass...you get through it :) I have made it a point to make 2013 the year to just take time to really live in the moment..find something to enjoy in every situation...and slow down and make memories :) It's a choice! Some people just aren't strong enough to handle happiness..
