seeing double

Image
Apparently there's a nasty cold bug going around the blogosphere (and in our home) and I'm currently carrying that bug. Between the soreness of my throat, the running of my nose, and the pain in my head, sometimes I feel like I'm seeing double. In an effort to clear up our stuffy heads, Jared and I finally got off of the couch this weekend and took Duke on a little hike. It was a cloudy day but in Hawaii, even cloudy days are gorgeous. We had a little fun with our camera but the pictures still don't do this day justice. Just me, my boys, and the open skies. I love days like these. Even a yucky cold couldn't ruin it. I wish so badly that I could capture these moments in a little box and open it when I need it most. For now, these pictures will have to do. What does your perfect day look like? Linking up with Shanna for Random Wednesday !

Tunic: c/o  Art + Soul Boutique  | Leggings:  Forever 21  | Glasses: c/o  Firmoo  | Necklace: Clothes Hound | Bracelets: Wanderlust + Co. , c/o Brighthouse Baubles , Jewelmint | Cuff: c/o York Designs Glasses have often been considered a sort of fashion taboo. There's a misconception that you can only wear them if you have to because you need them to see. Well, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to today's era of fashion where glasses are the new "thing". Although I actually do need glasses, I rarely ever wear them. For years, I've chosen to squint at the Starbucks menu instead of pulling out my glasses to see clearly. I'm not sure why the thought of wearing them always makes me uncomfortable. I felt like everyone stares at the person wearing glasses. I mean, they are on your face. When Firmoo contacted me to do a product review, I decided to take the plunge. I could have easily selected a pair of sunglasses from their huge selec...

not your average valentines

Image
Have I ever told you guys about my first Valentine's Day as a married woman? You're going to be so jealous. I told Jared that Valentine's Day wasn't super important to me so I didn't want him to make a big deal about it. So you know what he did? He took me grocery shopping. GROCERY SHOPPING. On VALENTINE'S DAY. I was so sure that he was joking.. surely he had some kind of surprise waiting at the end by the checkout counter, right??? Nope. So after our little shopping trip I politely (ok, it wasn't very polite) explained to him that when a girl says something is not a big deal, that means it IS, in fact, a big deal. And that even though a girl says "you don't have to get me anything", she really means "you don't have to spend a ton of money but a small surprise would totally make my day". I'm pretty sure he learned his lesson and we laugh about it all the time now. What's really funny is that I can't even remember ...

acts of kindness

I've been meaning to post about this and after reading about Amber's fabulous link-up , this week seemed like the perfect time to do so. Being away from family during the holidays is hard. Every year that we've lived in Hawaii, I get the winter blues. Even though it's not really "winter' here.. but you know what I mean. So anyway, we usually end up spending the holidays trying to forget that it's a holiday.. we go on dates or make a fancy dinner at home. It sounds kind of depressing but I've learned to love it. Plus, it reminds me how incredibly blessed I am to have my husband. This Christmas, my sweet husband had the idea of making Christmas cards and handing them out to random people. The idea alone made me fall in love with him all over again! And instead of exchanging Christmas gifts, we got a bunch of cash out and stuffed those in the cards too. So we made pretty cards, put some cash and lovely words inside, and went on with...

15 types of friends

Image
As I've gotten older (hey, 25 years of friendships counts for something) I've realized that a "friend" can mean a lot of things. I often became hurt because certain friends weren't living up to my expectations. I used to expect every "friend" to have every quality that I wanted and needed. They had to be trustworthy, fun, loyal, dependable, etc. etc..  But the truth is, not everyone is perfect. And not everyone is going to fit the perfect mold of a "friend". And that's ok. It's to have friends for different reasons. It's ok that the friend that you call when you need advice is not the same friend that you call when you want to try that new pizza place. There are different types of friends. We all know them. We all love them. Maybe we just love some more than others. + The Childhood Friend - If you met her today you probably wouldn't form a relationship. You've grown in different directions since you were younger but...
