feel the rain

[via]
When is the last time that you felt rain? I mean really felt each drop hit your skin instead of rushing for cover. Try it sometime. It's pretty exhilarating.

Someone recently told me that the hurricane season in Hawaii is July through December (is that true???) which is pretty insane. I'm kind of excited about it though. Well, not the hurricanes.. but the rain.

There really are only two types of days here. Sunny or rainy. And I'd say the temperature stays anywhere from 70 to 90 on our side of the island. The rain is nice because it changes things up a bit.

Recently I've found myself feeling a bit envious of the weather on the mainland (that's what people in Hawaii refer to the other 49 states as). Isn't that weird? Most people would love to spend their days in a place like Hawaii, where the weather easily translates into paradise. I guess it's been so long since I've been in a storm or "bad weather" so the thought of it makes me a bit nostalgic.

Driving through the rain. Hurricane parties. Running through puddles on the way to the subway. Snuggling under a blanket with the sound of rain hitting the window. The sound of thunder. Dancing in the rain.

Then, I woke up to this today:

It was perfect.

  1. Where on the island do you live? I live in Mililani and it rains almost every morning and night. Rain, sunshine, rain, sunshine....(horrible for my hair! :))

    One thing I wonder...does it thunder and/or lightning here? I haven't seen or heard it yet, but I've only been here a month.

    I could use a nice thunderstorm!

  2. @Vashelle, it rarely thunderstorms in Hawaii because the air needs to be pretty cold on top for that. I missed Texas thunderstorms the whole time I lived there. You still get the occasional ones, though.

    @Jessica, love the quote! :)

  3. I love that quote! It is so incredibly true! At work people look at me funny because I always have to go out and stand in the rain (only for a few minutes, don't want to get sick!) but to feel the rain on my skin. I just can't get enough.

    I think its because I'm a Pisces but I just can't get enough of water! :)

  4. What a lovely quote and story! I also live in a place that rarely gets any rain so I know exactly what your talking about when you suddenly find yourself looking forward to rainy and stormy days! That picture is beautiful!

  5. That's a beautiful story! I LOVE the rain, I often grab my dog and go out for a walk if the temperature is right. There's nothing like it.
