march 2012 birchbox [review]

https://www.birchbox.com?raf=2kssl

Sorry this is a little late! As you know, I'm the opposite of a beauty expert so it took me a while to try these things :)

This March I finally received my first Birchbox! I was pleasantly surprised. My only complaint is that I had to research how to use each product. For people like me, who know zero about beauty products, a description of "this oil smells really good" is not going to do it. What do I use it for? When do I use it? How often do I use it? Fortunately, the product descriptions on the Birchbox website are much more descriptive and helpful but don't count on any help from the box itself.

And now for the goodies! Drum roll please...

Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint: $38
Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint
How it works according to Birchbox: The formula has light-diffusing minerals, which give skin a soft glow and also smooth over any fine lines. Antioxidants like ginseng and gingko biloba leaf extract help improve skin, and SPF 20 wards off UVA and UVB rays.
How it works according to me: I am not used to wearing much makeup on my skin. I also live in a very humid environment (Hawaii). That being said, my face felt sticky and dirty (for lack of a better word) while wearing this. However, it did get the job done. My skin looked smooth and it evened up my skin tone.

Orifluido Elixir: $29.99
Orofluido Elixir
How it works according to BirchboxThis serum relies on a triple-treat of standout oils: argan oil strengthens strands; linseed oil smoothes cuticles to leave hair shiny; and Cyperus oil fortifies and boosts manageability.
How it works according to me: I love this stuff! I've used argan oil before and I'd say they've all worked about the same for me. It helps with fly-aways and frizziness and smells delightful. I'll definitely be using more of this.

One Love Organics Skin Savior Waterless Beauty Balm: $68
One Love Organics Skin Savior Waterless Beauty Balm
How it works according to BirchboxSimplify your beauty routine with this all-natural balm. Pure virgin coconut and sweet soy oils remove dirt and makeup, while mango seed butter increases the formula’s hydrating powers. The thick, waterless formula simultaneously acts as a moisturizer for your face and body, delivering you from dryness anywhere it strikes.
How it works according to me: This is a pretty cool product. You can use it to moisturize and cleanse. It's not my favorite to use on my face because it does feel a bit oily, but I like it on dry spots on my body. It also seems like it will last a while so I think it's worth the price. I'll probably be able to use my sample jar for a good amount of time.

Tea Forte skin-smart Teas
Tea Forte skin-smart Teas
How it works according to Birchbox: Tea Forté’s® intelligent green tea blends boost the health of your skin by clearing toxins out of your system, which helps ward off the signs of aging. Lychee Coconut is a fruity white tea blend designed to help your body ward off harmful free radicals. Honey Yuzu is designed to help your skin renew itself and increase elastin levels with yuzu, a revered Asian citrus fruit known for its high concentration of vitamin C. Cucumber Mint is laced with the subtle sweetness of blueberries and encourages your skin to firm up by boosting collagen production. The nuttiest of the bunch, Cherry Marzipan features the toasted goodness of almonds, plus antioxidant-rich acerola cherries, to reverse the look of fine lines and wrinkles. What’s more, our favorite celebrity nutritionist Dr. Oz calls it “dessert in a mug.”
How it works according to me: I'm not a fan of tea but a friend of mine said these were yummy!

Color Club Neon Polish: $8 each
Color Club Neon Polish
How it works according to BirchboxEach shade evokes a memorable element from the 1960s. Jackie Oh! is an intense bubblegum pink worthy of a leading lady. Lava Lamp is a fluorescent orange, and Peace Out Purple rocks our world with intense fuchsia undertones. Chelsea Girl is an electric blue Nico would have loved; Almost Famous is an attention-grabbing yellow; and Mrs. Robinson is a purplish magenta shade. The coolest of the bunch, Age of Aquarius is a greenish turquoise.
How it works according to me: I received the Age of Aquarius shade. The color is beautiful and the consistency is just right. My problem was that it chipped very easily.

Annick Goutal Eau d'Hadrien
Annick Goutal Eau d'Hadrien
How it works according to BirchboxThe ideal warm weather scent, Eau d’Hadrien is a symphony of glistening, refreshing citrus notes orchestrated through the Sicilian lemon.
How it works according to me: The smell is a bit too citrus for my taste.
