Pitches Be Crazy

Image
Disclaimer: This post's title isn't exactly the most relevant but I wanted so badly to use it. - - - So it's officially "fall" and in Hawaii that basically means it rains a little more than usual, it's windier, and MAYBE the temperature drops a degree or two. To battle the "I miss seasons" stage, I try to recreate fall moments. Cozy movie nights in with tasty treats and fall-scented candles is one of them. When I heard that Pitch Perfect 2 was finally out on Blu-Ray, I ran to Walmart to snag a copy, duh. Then I got really excited when I saw the combo pack that includes the soundtrack! And I don't know about you but I MUST have a snack while watching a movie. A local movie-snack favorite in Hawaii is hurricane popcorn. Hurricane popcorn is a mix of buttered popcorn, rice crackers (little crackers, kinda salty, and tastes like they're seasoned with soy sauce), and sprinkled with nori (seaweed, like the stuff you wrap around sushi)....

Recipe: Hawaiian Edamame

Image
Hi JW Readers!   My  name is Aukele and I blog over at  91dash .   Today I have the pleasure of taking over Jessica’s blog. A little bit about me – prior to 91dash , I blogged at  Instant Mommie where I started to find my “blogging voice”.   Now, over at 91dash , I’m developing and  refining it – so come and visit!   I enjoy  talking about life,  Hawaii, random  collections, handmade shops, parties and food! Which low and behold, we’re  going to talk about today. I’m sharing a edamame (or soybean) dish that is flavored  with a local style Asian sauce.   This is  a favorite snack in Hawaii.   It is SO  popular, that it is offered (instead of bread) at Roy’s Restaurant (a popular  upscale restaurant from the islands) as your drink order is taken. You’ll love this simple recipe because each layer of flavor  blends beautifully together and it is a tasty pupu (or appetize...

recipe: nachos

Image
You're probably thinking, why is she posting a recipe for nachos?! , which is exactly why I was hesitant to do so. Seems so easy right? But you would not believe how many people ask how to make them. And to be honest, there's so many different ways to do it and we just recently perfected ours. It's like a sandwich.. everyone has their own way of making sandwiches. We all know you just slap whatever you want on some bread and you're done. But everyone's "perfect sandwich" is different. I feel like I just sounded like I know what I'm doing in the kitchen. I DON'T. This is just a quick and easy meal for those nights that Jared is too tired to cook and actually trusts me to make something and not screw it up. So here's how we make ours --- INGREDIENTS: + tortilla chips (we use Tostitos restaurant style chips) + beans (we use canned Goya pinto beans) + chicken (or beef, shrimp, whatever. I like to use leftovers from this...

recipe: chicken bowtie alfredo

Image
If you're a frequent reader, you know that I suck in the kitchen and that my husband is a badass and cook pretty much anything. For real. Since being married, I actually prefer to eat at home because his meals are better than eating out. That says a lot coming from me - lover of dining out. So anyway, since discovering his major talents in the kitchen (even he didn't know that he was that good), we like to search for recipes that challenge him. That being said, I could eat pasta everyday for lunch and dinner. And sometimes breakfast. Seriously. I love it so much. So usually when I'm the one searching for recipes, I look for something that has pasta in it. This one was a challenge because he had never made a white sauce from scratch before. And alfredo from a jar is so gross to me. So he tried it.. and like always, he killed it. It's now one of my favorite dishes! Here are a few pictures from various steps of the cooking process. The recipe follows. Enjoy! ...

the easiest chicken tacos you'll ever make

Image
So you already know that I don't cook. Not only because I suck at it but also because I just don't like it ( thank God for this guy ). But eating- now that's something I love. So when I find something that's super easy to make and tastes super yummy too, I'm all over it. Enter: crockpot. I thought this thing would be my savior. Everyone told me how easy it is to use and that there's no way that you can screw up a crock pot recipe. Well ladies and gentleman, there is a way. I've tried out a few different recipes with it but this is the only one that we actually love! RECIPE: Ingredients -- + 3 tablespoons taco seasoning (I've used several different brands) + 1 cup chicken broth + 2 boneless skinless chicken breasts (about 1 lb.) Directions -- + Dissolve taco seasoning into chicken broth + Place chicken breasts in crock pot and pour chicken broth mixture over them + Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours. I like to shred the ...

buffalo chicken salad [recipe]

Image
Hi There! My name is Andrea Bai, and I blog at  Glam Hungry Mom . Glam Hungry Mom  is a blog that encompasses everything I love: food, beauty, style, and family.  I love making recipes and experimenting in the kitchen.  I'm obsessed with beauty products and make up.  Cooking and makeup are my version of therapy sessions.  I also blog a little about my life as a college football coach's wife and a stay-at-home mom to a dashing toddler. Okay, enough about me.  Let's get to the real reason you're here...for my Buffalo Chicken Salad recipe!  I have been making this for a while without measuring ..until now.  Buffalo wings are an obsession of mine, but they can be laden with fat.  This is what I like to make when I want the flavor without the extra fat of frying.  I'm not a huge blue cheese dressing fan, so I made my version of ranch dressing instead. Ingredients: Salad: 1 romaine he...

kitchen cheat sheet

* [via] This is a re-post from Britt @ Yellow Umbrella (THANK YOU BRITT!). Since I suck and am completely clueless in the kitchen, I HAD to share it! for the coffee lovers

Image
[via] I first saw this idea on the Frikken Duckie blog and thought-- this is genius !  Then I saw it here . And here . And  here . I knew I had to try it! [via] Imagine this- it's a hot summer day, but you still need your coffee. So you grab an iced coffee. It's wonderful.. until the end when it starts getting watery because the ice is melting!  So what do you do?? Use coffee ice cubes! All you need is: - coffee - ice tray That's it.  Pour coffee into the ice tray, put it into the freezer and let it freeze. Once frozen, you can use it in your regular iced coffee mix, or just pour milk, almond milk, chocolate milk.. I mean whatever floats your boat. Yum, right? [via] [via] Try it!
